Publishing Instructions
Once you are an Xtra customer, subscribing to the XtraHost service entails:

  • Providing your company information
  • Selecting your XtraHost password
  • Choosing your preferred publishing method

For FTP publishing instructions click here

For HTTP Put instructions using Netscape Navigator Gold click here

Alternatively, you can upload your Web site using a Web browser. This method suits Web sites created using applications other than Netscape. You will need to know which files are required for your Web site and where they are located on your computer's hard drive. To publish using this method:

  • Go to http://home.xtra.co.nz/admin/
  • Login using your Xtra username (Login ID) and the password you chose when subscribing to XtraHost
  • Click on "Web Site Management Tool"
  • Click on "Upload Files" (in the blue banner at the top of the page)
  • Click the "Browse" button and select the file on your computer's hard drive that you wish to upload.

Tip: If your site consists of many files, you can use a Zip program to compress the site into one file and upload this, then unzip the file on the site.

Please Note: Xtrahost supports Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4 and above, and Netscape Version 3 and above.

Registering a Domain Name
If you would prefer to use an address in the form www.mycompanyname.co.nz instead of www.home.xtra.co.nz/hosts/directoryname you will need to have a registered domain name. Please click here for more information about domain names.

If you already have a registered domain name and would like to use it for your Web site, please click here and request an HTTP Redirect. You will need to supply your domain name and the directory URL of your site
(eg. home.xtra.co.nz/hosts/yourdirectoryname)

Using Xtra's CGI Scripts
CGI (Common Gateway Interface) Scripts are programs that are run on a Web server when requested by a Web page visitor. The Web site visitor does not need to use a special viewer or plugin for the CGI Script to run.

Xtra provides three free CGI Scripts for XtraHost customers to use. These are a Form Mailer, Counter and Guestbook. These scripts can be utilised with little or no modification.

Please note that Xtra does not allow customers to upload their own CGI Scripts to the Xtra Web server.
